Minimum Wage Increase Effective January 1, 2019

Beginning January 1, 2019, the minimum wage for all employees working within the geographic boundaries of the City of San Diego will increase to $12.00 per hour.

It is also a good reminder that the state minimum wage will also increase effective January 1, 2019.  Employers with 1 – 25 employees will be required to pay $11.00 per hour and employers with 26 or more employees will be required to pay $12.00 per hour.  Of course if your business operates within San Diego’s geographical boundaries or you have employees that work 2 hours or more in a workweek within the San Diego geographical boundaries, regardless of company size, you will be required to pay the $12.00 per hour.

With the increase in the state minimum wage comes an increase in the minimum salary requirements for exempt employees.  Effective January 1, 2019, the minimum salary requirement for an exempt employee will increase to  $45,760 for employers with 1-25 employees and $49,920 for employers with 26 or more employees.
