Effective January 1, 2021 a new California law expanded the categories of employees who are mandated reporters to include Human Resources Employees and any “adult person whose duties require direct contact with and supervision of minors in the performance of the minors’ duties”, so HR Professionals and Front-Line managers of businesses who employ minors need to understand how to identify child abuse and neglect, and how to report it.

SDEA will be providing Mandated Reporter training at no cost for members and a $40 fee for non-members. This training will explain how the law defines child abuse and neglect, the different types of abuse and neglect, indicators of the occurrence of abuse and neglect, and what the law requires of mandated reporters. We will also outline the protections that the law provides for mandated reporters, how to file a report, and what happens after the report is filed.

If you employ minors, even for short-term assignments, your HR Representatives and Managers must be educated on their responsibilities or they could be subject to a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.

A certificate will be provided for your records.

The one-hour training will be provided via webinar every other month in 2021, starting March 31. Check our Events Calendar for dates and times. Members can also access a recording on demand after March 31. And if you have any questions regarding the necessity of this training for your organization, call us at 858-505-0024.
