The United States general election has come and gone, leaving in its wake a trail of passionate discussions, strongly held opinions, and possibly a few bruised relationships in the workplace. As we all return to our desks, cubicles, and watercoolers, it’s essential to remember that, regardless of our political affiliations, we’re all still part of the same team.

So, how do we navigate the potentially treacherous waters of post-election workplace dynamics? Here are a few tips:

  • Agree to disagree: It’s okay if your coworkers don’t share your views. In fact, it’s more than okay – it’s what makes the world interesting.
  • Keep it civil: No name-calling, no personal attacks, and no “I told you so!”. (Unless the universe is obliterated as a result of this election. Then you can sing the “I was right” song. Well, you can’t because the universe has been obliterated, but I digress. You get it.)
  • Focus on shared goals: Remember, you’re all working towards the same objectives, even if you have different ideas about how to get there.

By maintaining a sense of humor, respect, and camaraderie, we can ensure that our workplaces remain a positive and productive environment, no matter who’s in the White House. So, let’s all take a deep breath, adopt our best “we’re all in this together” attitudes, and get back to work!
