Form I-9

On July 17, 2017, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued a new version of Form I-9.

The use of this new form, required to verify employment eligibility, will be mandatory beginning September 18, 2017.

Employers will be able to use this revised version or continue using Form I-9 with a revision date of 11/14/16 N through September 17.

On September 18, employers must use the new form with a revision date of 07/17/17 N.

Current storage and retention rules for Form I-9 remain the same: an employer must retain the Form I-9 for each employee either for three (3) years after the date of hire or for one (1) year after employment is terminated, whichever is later. All current employees, therefore, must have an I-9 Form on file with the employer.

The new Form I-9 is located here.
